Bannisdale Horseshoe

Walk: The Bannisdale Horseshoe.

For: Suitable for age 12+ (children must be accompanied by parents).

Duration: 6 hours.

Distance / Ascent: 12 miles/19.3 km, 1500 ft/457 m.

Grading: Moderate to strenuous due to the amount of tussocks on sections and can be boggy depending on weather.

Description: The Bannisdale Horseshoe is a classic route featured in Alfred Wainwright’s Outlying Fells of Lakeland.  The walk visits Whiteside Pike 397 m, Todd Fell 400m, Capplebarrow 513m, Swinklebank Crag 554 m, Long Crag 488m, White Howe 529m and Lamb Pasture 367m. The walk has great views of the Kentmere Horseshoe and surrounding valleys.

Equipment: Walking Shoes / Boots, waterproofs. Suitable hiking clothing. Gaiters recommended. Packed lunch for the day and water / drinks.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome.
