Farleton Knott

Walk: Farleton Knott and Canal.

For: Everyone (as some of the walk is along road and canal edges if children are present they must be under parental supervision at all times).

Duration: 3 hours.

Distance / Ascent: 6.2 miles/10 km, 1105 ft/337 m.

Grading: Moderate.

Description: The start of the walk is from the bus stop at The Smithy Inn at Holme . From here we will make our way up to the summit of Farleton Knott where there is a large area of limestone pavement, some limestone crags and impressive 360 degree views. The route will take in canal path, a short section of road, then track. Our return will descend on the other side of the escarpment to Puddlemire Lane and follow a track around the base of the Knott to Farleton Village and back to the Lancaster Canal. Here we follow the canal south, back to the starting point at Holme.

Meeting Place: Participants are to meet at the Smithy Inn, Holme, for 9:50am in order to make a prompt start. The walk leader will catch the 555 bus from Kendal departing 09.15hrs to arrive at Holme 9:15hrs for the start.

Dogs: Dogs are allowed on this walk but only under tight control (ground nesting birds).
