Description: This beautiful walk to High Dam, above Finsthwaite, on the western shore of Windermere, is a route that surprisingly few people seem to have heard of, let me tell you a little more about it….
High Dam is an artificial tarn about 1.5km away from Stott Park Bobbin Mill, which was constructed to provide water to power the mill. Apparently, no-one knows exactly who built the tarn, which was in place by 1848, and is now a local beauty spot. Surprisingly, very few people seem to have heard of this route either, even though it is clearly popular with many local dog walkers.
We will ascend over/ via Finstwaite to High Dam, stop for lunch to take in the spectacular views, then return south via the Rusland Valley with many viewing points on route finishing at Rusland Pool Hotel for some well-deserved refreshments.
This is a full day activity, public transport to/ from Kendal required. Timings of transport subject to change.
Meeting Place: Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge. Finish at Rusland Pool.
